Irvine School Of Martial Arts  (I.S.O.M.A.). was founded in 1984 and is strong throughout  Ayrshire. The style was made prominent by the late Master Mick Milroy, founder of many schools in the Lancashire area.  His main centre of excellence being in his hometown of Bolton, where he organised and ran the World Korean Jitsu Federation -  a multi-styles organisation developed for the benefit of martial artists Worldwide.  Master Milroy was a pupil of Grandmaster Robert Lawrence who first brought Kwanbup back to Britian in the late 1950’s from its place of origin on the Korean Peninsula.

George Bryson, Sahbamin of I.S.O.M.A., had previously studied Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu

and combative sciences to the highest level.  After being introduced to Master Milroy and being impressed by his technique, Knowledge and the simple efficiency of the Kwanbup techniques he decided to dedicate himself to the study and further development of Kwanbup in all its many facets.

After the death of Master Milroy in 1990, internal politics and power struggles by various  high-ranking Dan grades caused George to seek a new path for I.S.O.M.A.  His firm belief that there is no place for politics and petty squabbles within martial arts caused him to seek out a new federation that would look after his club and students.  This support was found in the form of the W.B.F.O.M.A. and Soke Tom Baldwin 10th Dan.

I.S.O.M.A. Is, to this day, led by master Instructor George Bryson and his longest serving  student and now Chief Instructor Fred Jones - between them having almost 60 years martial arts experience.  They utilise this in the continued development of training methods and fighting techniques to produce students of the highest moral, ethical and technical standards.  This is reflected in the many students who have reached the highest standards at both club and international level in various traditional and freestyle fighting  forms.
